Specifications of Custom Cages »
- Custom Cages, 1/3rd-2/3rds, AKA: as half cages, are patented by the manufacturer in design and concept. Cages for patrol vehicle are designed to interchange in Ford Crown Victoria, Taurus, Chevrolet Caprice, Impalas, Luminas and Dodge Intrepid. Many other vehicles can also be fitted, provided they have 4 doors. Only bracket length and location adjustments need to be made. All vehicles using the 1/3rd cages can be fitted with a K-9 platform.
- Custom Cages barrier cage frames are constructed of 1' x 1" x 1/8th" angle steel. Each frame is made of one piece of steel, formed into a specific shape and welded securely.
- Custom Cages barrier screens are of one-piece flat-expanded metal and 16 ga. sheet steel, cut to fit the respective frame. The screens are welded on all points of contact to the barrier frames. The screens and brackets are then painted. *** All cages are supplied with instructions and all mounting brackets and fasteners ***
- Custom Cage uses only new manufacture materials, (NO RUST or SCRAP) steel. Doorpost brackets are constructed from 2" x 1/8th" flat steel. The floor bracket is constructed of 4" x 1/8th" flat screened steel.
- Custom Cage uses new production mild steel fasteners. Depending on the severity of the crash, no damage from the cage should occur to the drivers side. With conventional full-length cages, damage usually occurs to both sides. Attaching the barrier to the patrol vehicle are made by using seatbelt bolts whenever possible, #14 x 2" self-tapping screws and 1/4" x 2" stove bolts, at the floor and rear deck. **NOTE: Floor bolts excessive length should be cut off after installation. The front frame portion of the barrier cage is covered during assembly with a plastic foam insulation to cushion the suspect's head and knees should they become violent or lose their balance upon entry or exit.
- WARNING!!!! Suspects should always be searched and secured in the caged area and seat-belted with the factory installed restraining device. Suspect's hands should be secured behind their backs. Suspects should never be attached to the barrier or vehicle with any other restraining devices.
All of Custom Cages vehicle applications are designed to be not only safe, but also functional.
The employees of Custom Cage want to see every officer finish their shift and go home to their families. We also wish to maintain a degree of comfort for the driver, and to allow room for equipment organization.
